Andy Lee, a doctoral candidate in piano performance at the UMKC Conservatory has recently joined the faculty at Avila University as Artist-in-Residence. In addition to his doctorate, he is in the process of completing an additional masters in music theory as part of his pursuit to become a better teacher and performer. Andy has already completed his masters in piano performance at UMKC under the direction of Prof. John McIntyre, and earned his bachelor of music from Truman State University under the direction of Dr. David McKamie.
As an undergraduate, Andy was the recipient of several musical and academic awards. He was a finalist in Concerto/Aria Competition, Presser Scholar, Valedictorian, as well as the first performance major to graduate with general honors. As a graduate student, he has established himself as an avid performer of new music and his research interests have varied from Mozart to Minimalism.
As a teacher, Andy understands that no two students are alike, and he works to tailor lessons to suit individual needs and goals. Having worked with students from 5 to over 50, he can push those that want to pursue piano seriously as well as help those who have just always wanted to give piano a try.
